The Hanging of the Greens
The Hanging of the Greens service is based on the English tradition of decorating the home with wreaths, garlands, a Christmas tree, and evergreens for Advent and Christmas. In a church setting, it readies the sanctuary (and church members hearts) for the coming of our Lord.
Emanuel Church will hold its Hanging of the Greens Service on Sunday (12/2) and everyone will get to take part in the service. Some will hang wreaths on the front of the Church while others will place presents under the tree and ring the worship bells. A small Creche will be placed on the alter. We will also light the first Advent candle for the first week of Advent (The first lit candle signifies Hope}. Everyone else will help to decorate the beautiful tree in the front of our sanctuary with Chrismons of white and gold and then the beautiful lights will be illuminated. The evergreen tree is truly magnificent and reminds us of the everlasting life we are promised. We will also watch a short music video titled "Where's The Line To See Jesus", which tells of a little boy's question when he saw the line to see Santa at the mall.
It will be a wonderfully inspirational service as I'm sure all who attend will attest. We hope to see you this Sunday and on Sunday, December 16th as our choir presents their 2018 Christmas Cantata to help us to continue to prepare our hearts for the coming of our Lord on Christmas Day.
